I have a similar problem with Need for Speed Pro Street (Another old game I know), also made by EA. By the way, Spore is made by Electronic Arts. It worked perfectly until, all of a sudden, the graphics card wasn't supported.

I also ran the game on a Windows 7 laptop a while back. Should I try reinstalling it? I am worried that this would only fix the problem temporarily. I really don't want this to be the case, because I really like Spore.

I have heard that people have been complaining with some other games because no matter what they try, they can't get Windows 8 to play some older games. It also seems that when Spore was run from Vista compatibility, it was more laggish. Just a few minutes ago, right when I entered the Tribal stage, I got the same error message. I ran the Windows 8 troubleshooter, and it set the game to compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2, which is ironic, because the game is even worse on my Vista. Just earlier today, in the Space Stage, I got the error message "Spore has stopped working". I just recently got back into the game, and I was able to play through a few stars completely. Okay, I know Spore is an old game, and I know NOTHING works on Windows 8, but I still want to try to fix this.
